Langwarrin Christian Reformed Church

Our Name: As a CHRISTIAN Church: We believe that the entire Bible is the authoritative and inspired Word of God. We hold that the historic Creeds shared by all Christian Churches, (the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed), the Reformed Confessions, (the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession and the Canons of Dordt) and the Westminster Confession as an accurate summary of the teachings of God's Word. The Church is Presbyterial in its form of Government, being governed by the Church Council, comprising the Minister(s), the Elders and the Deacons, as elected by the Church Membership. As a REFORMED Church: We are in the tradition of the historic Protestant Reformation. We believe the Bible to be our rule for faith and life. We believe that God saves us from our sin by Grave Alone. We believe that we receive the gift of eternal life only by faith in His only Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. As a CHURCH: We believe that we belong to Christ, as members of His body. We believe that He is our King, the Head and Saviour of His Church. We believe that He has called us to be His People, living out our faith in His Church and in His Kingdom. OUR VISION: We are a Christian Church that Loves God and others, Grows together in Christ, and Reaches the Lost

THE LORD'S MESSAGE FOR TODAY

Theme this week: See the Lord’s plan for your life in the small things

Read Luke 22:1-47
Focus today Luke 22:40-42: “On reaching the place, he said to them, ‘Pray that you will not fall into temptation.’ He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, ‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.’”

(The Bible is available online at www.biblegateway.com)

Jesus wrestles in prayer to subject His own will to that of His Father.
The disciples do not prepare for the crisis at hand when Jesus is arrested.
Unprepared they flee, Peter denies Jesus.
Jesus however says: I have prayed for you, repent and strengthen others.
We sometimes struggle to keep the balance between our own responsibility and the freely given grace of God in Christ.
We don’t prepare every day, grappling in prayer, and then we fall.
When we have fallen, we forget that Jesus prays for us and that the Spirit prays with us.
Remember, you cannot resist temptations. You can however resist temptation through the power of the Spirit inside you.
Pray every day, plead in your anguish. Grab hold to the truth of your complete salvation.
Stand up, Jesus has prayed for you, strengthen others from your fall and standing up.
Prayer: O Spirit of God, fill me with Your power and love that I may strengthen others with Your comfort. Amen

THE LORD'S MESSAGE FOR TODAY

Theme this week: See the Lord’s plan for your life in the small things

Read Luke 22:1-47
Focus today Luke 22:19-20: “And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

(The Bible is available online at www.biblegateway.com)

A fracturing? Yes, a broken body, blood flowing, God’s punishment.
Jesus dies under the wrath of God, wrath over your sin.
Hell is what He endures, because His Father forsakes Him on the cross.
This fracturing can however make you whole, because Jesus shares His broken body and blood.
You can take and eat and drink and heal, become whole, become clean, holy.
Every time Satan accuses you, plagues your conscience over your sin, take and eat. Make the meaning of His death and resurrection your portion.
God’s plan transcends the fracturing. Also for you if you kneel before Him in your brokenness in awe of His love.
Prayer: Feed me, Lord, with Your love that I so clearly see in the broken body of my Saviour. Amen

THE LORD'S MESSAGE FOR TODAY

Theme this week: See the Lord’s plan for your life in the small things

Read Luke 22:1-47
Focus today Luke 22:2-3: “…and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve.”

(The Bible is available online at www.biblegateway.com)

The chief priests and teachers of the law make plans, Judas makes plans, Satan makes plans.
They seek to thwart God’s plans.
Without knowing it, they are actually executing God’s plan in the plans they make. They are doing exactly what God planned them to do (see Acts 4:27-28).
Evil and corrupt people still make plans today to your and my detriment.
They cannot however do anything outside of God’s will.
Even the hardship that befalls you, God works for the good.
Find peace in the Lord, your God and Father.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that You are for me. What can man do to me that will not be for the good, as You have planned? Amen

THE LORD'S MESSAGE FOR TODAY

Theme this week: See the Lord’s plan for your life in the small things

Read Luke 22:1-47
Focus today Luke 22:1, 7, 14: “Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching…then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table.”

(The Bible is available online at www.biblegateway.com)

Jesus’ final hours on earth have come.
This time doesn’t go unplanned.
Luke puts emphasis on the course of events during the Passover.
The Passover was near, die day of the Passover dawned, the hour has come.
God plans the reconciling death of His Son moment by moment.
He, the Passover Lamb, must be sacrificed to reconcile us to Him.
Nothing will prevent it. God’s loving planning brings it to fulfilment.
He sends and steers your redemption in Jesus Christ.
He also plans your life, your growth in faith, your joy and pain, success and loss.
All in His love for you, His child, in Christ Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, my God and Father, thank You that nothing that happens to me is random, but that it all comes from Your loving Fatherly hand. Amen

THE LORD'S MESSAGE FOR TODAY

Theme this week: See the Lord’s plan for your life in the small things

Lees Lukas 22:1-10
Focus today Luke 22:8-10: “Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, ‘Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.’ ‘Where do you want us to prepare for it?’ they asked. He replied, ‘As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters.”

(The Bible is available online at www.biblegateway.com)

Who is the man with the jar? Who is the owner of the house?
How could it be that the man is walking there with his jar right at that exact time?
Who made arrangements with the owner of the house?
We don’t know, but therein we see how God carries out His plans by means of the small things and everyday people.
Jesus is on His way to die for our sins. God puts everything in place for Him to celebrate His final Passover on earth with His disciples.
Today He will also place small things in place for you to fulfil His plan with you.
Today He will put you in place to fulfil His plan with others.
Prayer: Help me, Lord, to see You today in the small things and be reassured that You are on a path with me. Amen
